The cover picture shows an E13.5 female gonad. The marker of migratory germ cells SSEA1 (blue) is being turned off after entry into the gonad. Oct4 (green) is turned off as they enter meiosis and express scp3 (red). These markers were used to study the differentiated states of ectopic germ cells whose normal apoptotic pathway was blocked.
